Best bets for the Chinese Grand Prix include Sauber prospering

Published:

Lewis Hamilton will start the Chinese Grand Prix from pole position and the Mercedes driver is the big favourite to land a fourth race win of his career at the Shanghai International Circuit.

The reigning world champion edged out teammate Nico Rosberg in the final qualifying session and the Silver Arrows top the betting at 3/10 and 3/1 respectively.

However, there are a few different ways to turn a profit on race day and here are the best of them.

Fastest lap in the race: Rosberg @ 13/8

Because of Hamilton’s special affinity with Shanghai, Rosberg gets a little overlooked, when the German won here in 2012 and recorded the fastest lap of the race in 2014 – having been forced to retire in 2013.

Only four-hundredths of a second separated Rosberg from pole position this time around so he’s right on Hamilton’s pace this weekend and offers more value in this market.

Both teams to have a podium finish: Sauber @ 7/4

Sauber’s excellent start to the F1 season may have been aided by McLaren dropping off the map, but their young drivers are getting the best out of a vastly-improved car.

Both Felipe Nasr and Marcus Ericsson finished in the points in Australia, before the heat played havoc in Malaysia, but in cooler conditions the duo were at it again, qualifying ninth and 10th in Shanghai.

Felipe Massa: Podium Finish @ 4/1

Fourth in Australia and sixth in Malaysia, the Brazilian was hot on the heels of Sebastian Vettel in Q3, where he’ll start from the second row of the grid alongside the German’s Ferrari.

Williams are getting closer to the regular podium pace they showed in the second half of last season and Massa may just be able to capitalise on any mistakes ahead of him.
