Andros Townsend only turns it on for England, say voters

I think it’s fair to say we’ve all gone a little bit crazy over Andros Townsend in the past 24 hours.

After all, the Tottenham star’s stunning strike to secure England a 1-1 draw against Italy in Turin lit up the dying embers of international week.

From Kane-mania to the re-emergence of the man formerly known as ‘Dross’, it’s been a good few days for a number of the north London club’s talents.

However, in the case of Townsend, can he be accused of only turning it on when he plays for the national team?

That was the question we posed and it’s the 23-year-old who’s come out on top in the debate to decide the ultimate country over club player.

The former QPR man polled 39% of the vote with Colombian Radamel Falcao next in line for the unwanted accolade.

He might be found slumming it with Manchester United’s under-21 side but seven goals in his last eight games for Los Cafeteros highlights the noticeably improved performances for his country.

Germany’s equally mercurial forward Lukas Podolski was third in our list while Bosnian Edin Dzeko and Italy’s midweek hero Graziano Pelle completed the set.

Meanwhile, with England not in action again until June it looks like we’ll have to wait at least a couple of months before we see the best of our poll ‘winner’.
