5 reasons Everton could beat Manchester United this weekend

Manchester United’s six-game unbeaten run came crashing down despite a solid performance against Chelsea last week.

United may have enjoyed the lion’s share of the possession against the Blues but the 1-0 loss means a top four finish is far from assured and Everton will hope to add to that pressure with a win at Goodison Park on Sunday.

United will be confident of bouncing back instantly but there are plenty of reasons to suggest otherwise and here are our top five.

Head-to-Head form

It may have been a psychological block on the part of David Moyes but the former Toffees manager lost both league games against his old club while in charge of United last season.

United have won just once in their last six visits to Goodison and with the game marking a year since the 2-0 loss that ultimately saw Moyes ousted at Old Trafford the hosts could be set to cause more United upset.

Everton’s home form

Some shocking early season form saw Everton’s hopes of European qualification vanish and led to some to call for the head of manager Roberto Martinez but since the turn of the year the Spaniard has had his team much better organised.

The Toffees are now unbeaten at home in all competitions in 2015, winning five and drawing five.

The Merseysiders have also won their last three home games without conceding a single goal.

United’s away form

Louis van Gaal struggled for away form early in the season and it seems the Red Devils have been devoid of their confidence on the road of late too.

The visitors have won just three of their last nine games as the away side, drawing four and losing the other two.

Romelu Lukaku

Lukaku hasn’t exactly hit the heights of last season but with three strikes in his last five games the bulked-up Belgian has taken his tally to 18 for the season.

The former Chelsea man has proven his ability against the Red Devils before too, as one of just four players in the Premier League era to net a hat-trick against United.

Radamel Falcao

With Robin van Persie still an injury concern for United there is every chance that the misfiring Colombian could once against start in attack.

The on-loan Monaco man’s troubles this season are well documented but his current streak is more worrisome still.

In his last eight appearances, covering some 355 minutes on the pitch, the once-lethal striker has not managed a single effort on target!
