5 reasons why Borussia Dortmund can beat Bayern Munich

Out of the Champions League, unlikely to return next season and facing a summer spent warding off advances for some of their best players – things are not looking too rosy for Borussia Dortmund at present.
The visit of Bayern Munich to the Westfalenstadion this Saturday, in a game due to be broadcast on BT Sport 2, is unlikely to help matters much either, yet here at Ladbrokes News we are quietly optimistic about BVB’s chances of scoring an important win.
Available at a tempting price of 5/2 to score a home victory over the Bavarians, here are five reasons why that could be a bet worth backing come the weekend.
1. Europa League pursuits possible
Qualifying for the Champions League next season may already be out of the question for Dortmund but after a fine recent run BVB are just five points off a Europa League qualification place and four points off seventh place.
That could be enough to get them into Europe next term if one of Bayern, Wolfsburg, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Monchengladbach or Hoffenheim wins the DFB Pokal and qualifies as the cup winner. With that in mind, Dortmund have plenty to play for here.
2. Wolfsburg have shown the way
For long periods of the season, Bayern Munich have carried an air of infallible invincibility on the pitch in the Bundesliga with the Bavarians sweeping all challengers aside with relative ease.
But something evidently changed after the winter break, with nearest challengers Wolfsburg returning to action with a 4-1 hammering of Bayern that will have offered plenty in the way of encouragement to the likes of Borussia Dortmund.
3. Borussia Dortmund’s current form
Make no mistake: Klopp’s team endured something of a nightmare first-half to the current Bundesliga campaign, picking up just 15 points from 17 league games to leave the club flirting with relegation to the German second-tier.
But things have picked up significantly in the games since then with Dortmund racking up a further 18 points from nine games to lift the club away from the drop zone and towards the European places. The good times could therefore roll on against Bayern.
4. Bayern Munich’s notable absentee
The recent international week could yet prove to be a costly one for Bayern’s Champions League ambitions with the club set to be without Austrian defender David Alaba for the rest of the campaign with a knee injury after playing in a friendly against Bosnia-Herzegovina.
A key component of Pep Guardiola’s team and equally adept in defense as he is at offering an attacking outlet for the Bavarians, Alaba will be a major absentee for Bayern when they head to Dortmund and that only spells good news for Klopp’s charges.
5. BVB’s record against the Bavarians
Bayern Munich may have been the dominant force in the Bundesliga for much of the past few years, but Dortmund have still been able to get the better of the Bavarians on a few occasions along the way and will be optimistic going into this encounter.
BVB won the most recent meeting between the two at the Westfalenstadion – the German Super Cup final – 2-0 back in August 2014 and have only tasted defeat at the hands of the Bavarians on home soil in one of their last seven meetings in Dortmund. Believe.
