3 men guaranteed a Spurs exit before the Evening Standard’s 9
With five games left to play in the season, Spurs have little more than a spot in the Europa League to hope for.
A seven-point gap separates the north Londoners and fourth place, while a further 10 sit between Mauricio Pochettino’s men and eighth. So with a spot between fifth and seventh sewn up attention has naturally turned to summer transfer activity.
The London Evening Standard claim to have revealed a list of nine men set to be axed by the Argentine manager over the summer which, if bears fruit, would leave the former Saints tactician with just two central-midfielders in his squad.
Benajmin Stambouli, Mousa Dembele, Paulinho AND Etienne Capoue are set for summer exits according to the paper, but there are players far more likely to bid farewell to the 10/11 top-six challengers this summer, like these forgotten faces:
The German number 10 returned to his homeland on loan early on in the campaign and has featured in 20 games for Hamburg since doing so.
Rumours that he had impressed Die Rothosen enough to land a permanent switch in January are inaccurate and it’s a certainty that the 24-year-old will be moved on by Spurs.
Like Holtby, it’s easy to forget that Carroll is still a Spurs employee, having signed up for a season-long loan at Swansea last summer.
Although it’s unclear whether the south Wales club want the diminutive ball player for good, he certainly seems most at risk of the chop should the Swans not purchase him permanently, over the Standard’s supposed at-risk quartet.
Officially, the American warhorse fills a dual role as Spurs’ third-choice keeper and ambassador in the United States, although at 43-years-old it seems the latter will fill more of his time next season, having not played a single game for the club this term.
