2015 NFL Draft: The best 3 value bets for the Chicago event

Published:

The hype and fanfare surrounding the number one pick in the NFL draft is somewhat duller this year, as it looks a cast-iron certainty that quarterback Jameis Winston from Florida State will be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ marquee selection.

Ladbrokes concur with that sentiment, making the 21-year-old the runaway 1/8 favourite to be the first player called onstage at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago.

That doesn’t mean there are no bets to be placed on the event though, as the three value punts listed below can attest:

Kevin White to be first WR picked @ 5/4

There’s barely anything between the two leading prospects at wide receiver this year. Although Amari Cooper is 4/7 to be the first man picked at his position, it is West Virginia man White who should get the investment.

He could go as high as number four, to the Oakland Raiders, with his greater potential and ability to return kicks edging him ahead of Cooper.

Dante Fowler to be the first DE/DL picked @ 6/5

The betting makes Leonard Williams the top man here, at 2/5, but he is certainly not as strong a chance as those odds suggest.

Although the media rave over him, NFL teams are quietly reserved over his potential, with inconsistencies and a failure to perform on 3rd downs highlighted as negative aspects by the draft experts at WalterFootball.com.

At this price, it is worth backing those suspicions over Williams to be true and taking the next best player at the position, Fowler, to be picked ahead of him.

Over 1.5 RBs to be picked in the first round @ 2/5

Although it’s not the greatest price in the world, this bet landing would provide a piece of history to the NFL Draft.

There hasn’t been a running back picked in the first round of the draft since 2012, yet two are given a real chance of changing that.

Both Todd Gurley and Melvin Gordon have caught the eye of a few teams in the lead up to the draft and the Miami Dolphins, with the 14th pick, and Detroit Lions, with the 23rd, both liable to pounce.
