15-goal Wolfsburg striker pops up on Swansea’s transfer radar

After the relative lull of the international break a few visits to the rumour mill are most welcome as the Premier League rolls back into view.

The latest whisper falls firmly into the category of ‘Premier League team has glaring vacancy, so identify X player on the continent who could fill it.’

Enter Wolfsburg striker Bas Dost, whose exploits for the Bundesliga club have got Swansea dreaming of signing a successor to Wilfried Bony’s empty Liberty Stadium throne.

Dost’s 15 goals in all competitions have helped Wolfsburg become Bayern Munich’s nearest challengers in the German top-flight, booked a Europa League quarter-final spot and earned him a first full cap for Holland in the recent European Championship qualifiers.

Given the parallels with Bony’s career path it’s unsurprising that the rangy striker is attracting firm interest from the Swans.

Dost made his name in the Eredivisie too, at Heerenveen rather than Vitesse, finishing top of the scoring charts with a tally of 32 goals from 34 games in 2011/12 before Wolfsburg plucked him.

Still only 25, the Dutchman has complied figures of 109 goals in 203 senior appearances, stats impressive enough to rouse plenty of interest elsewhere.

Indeed, the Dutchman’s accuracy in front of the onion bag is thought to have resonated with several other Premier League clubs besides Swansea, according to German newspaper Bild.

They report Newcastle, Southampton and Stoke City are all keeping tabs on Dost’s situation.

Meanwhile, as their season winds down towards a comfortable mid-table finish, Swansea are made 5/6 favourites to see off Hull at the Liberty in their next fixture.
