Zidane pips Cristiano Ronaldo in poll as Real Madrid’s greatest

Published:

Zinedine Zidane is Real Madrid’s greatest ever player, according to the latest poll from News.Ladbrokes.

The Frenchman scored 44 per cent of the vote on the day that marked Los Blancos’ 113th birthday, pushing Cristiano Ronaldo out to second place in the process.

CR7 could only manage a 32 per cent share though he was some way clear of third-placed Alfredo Di Stefano who racked up 14 per cent of the vote.

The familiar pairing of Raul and Ronaldo scored 5 per cent each in a hotly-contested ballot on Real Madrid’s best ever player.

Zidane etched his name into Los Merengues’ folklore back in 2002 after netting the winner in a 2-1 Champions League final triumph over Bayer Leverkusen.

And though Cristiano Ronaldo would no doubt be disappointed to hear he was beaten into second place by Zizou, he will get a chance to show his true worth to Los Galacticos this weekend.

Real Madrid visit Athletic Bilbao in La Liga this Saturday with manager Carlo Ancelotti keen to bounce back from a 1-1 draw with Villarreal last time out.

A few goals at the San Mames could mean that, come the time of our next poll, it’s CR7 who comes out on top.
