Van Gaal’s United boosted for more of the same at home to Arsenal

Ladbrokes are hanging their heads out of the car window ahead of Manchester United’s FA Cup quarter-final clash against Arsenal, with 6/1 and 8/1 win prices available respectively to customers betting with the bookies online for the first time ahead of the Old Trafford fixture*.

Considering the pair are 11/8 and 15/8 for everyone else, new customers would be wise to avail of this offer, which can be had from 8am on Saturday morning right up until Monday night’s kick off, and there’s really only one team to be on in the north west.

Despite their all-too-apparent turgidity under Louis van Gaal, particularly in 18 away matches since the Iron Tulip took charge, of which they’ve won just six, there are very few holes to pick at in United’s home form.

A forgivable 2-1 opening-day loss against Swansea, in Van Gaal’s first competitive match in charge of the club, has been followed by just one more defeat from 14 Old Trafford fixtures, by a single goal to Southampton two months ago.

Indeed, the Red Devils’ only other non win at home since the start of the campaign was a 1-1 draw with Premier League leaders Chelsea, who are the one top-flight side to have claimed more points in front of the faithful this season.

Barring their 2-0 win over champions Manchester City in January, Arsenal’s away form is far from spectacular; they’ve lost at Stoke, Southampton and Spurs in the past few months, and road victories over West Ham, Crystal Palace and QPR during that period have all been by a sole goal.

Furthermore, the Gunners have a dreadful recent record against their next opponents, failing to beat United in each of their past seven tries and losing five of those games, including 2-1 earlier this season at the Emirates.

It may not be pretty, but Van Gaal’s United tend to win at home. Punt accordingly.
