Trophee Hassan II: Horsey hits form in time for favourite event

As the final European Tour assignment before the Masters approaches, there is a dual motivation for some of the field for Morocco’s Trophee Hassan II.
Wins for any of Alexander Levy, Andy Sullivan, Tommy Fleetwood, Marcel Siem, George Coetzee would book them a place at Augusta in two weeks time, while Ross Fisher would need other results to fall his way in order to head to Georgia with a victory.
Coetzee is the Hassan II favourite at a price of 16/1 with Levy, Sullivan and Siem following close behind at 20s, suggesting all have strong chances of fulfilling their dreams of playing in the game’s most revered Major.
At respective odds of 25/1 and 33/1, Fisher and Fleetwood stands less of a chance, but all six men will do well to better a man with Golf du Palais Royal form as imposing as it is lengthy.
20/1 shot David Horsey must mark the Agadir-based tournament in the calendar every year with excitable glee. The Englishman has never finished outside the top 30 in his five appearances, won it in 2011, came second two years later and was eighth last year.
As a three-time European Tour winner (with the most recent coming last season), there can be no doubting his ability to get the job done. After a difficult run of form, his swing looks to be finding a smoother groove just in time to cash in at his favourite event once again.
Horsey opened his season with three missed cuts on the spin, however he corrected that somewhat during the African swing with a T32 finish at the Joburg Open.
Even more heartening was his T10 last week at the Tshwane, which saw him take a share of the lead after the first round.
The suitable surroundings in Morocco will only boost Horsey’s confidence further and his price feels like it should be far shorter. Pile on.
