Time running out on backing Liverpool for top-four finish

The race for the top four spots in the Premier League is beginning to simmer with only nine points separating champions Manchester City in second from Southampton in sixth.

Manchester United’s home form keeps the Red Devils clinging to fourth at present, while Arsenal’s ongoing immunity to European failure means the Gunners are stepping things up in the usual fashion when the season turns for home.

Tottenham are by no means out of it another six points back from United, though it’s difficult to tell how two consecutive cup defeats, the last of which came in the League Cup final, will affect the Lilywhites.

One of the only certainties at this point, other than Chelsea strolling to the title, is that the team in fifth are carrying the crucial momentum.

Rousing wins over Saints and then City have propelled Liverpool into their highest placing in the top flight since October, after which Brendan Rodgers’ charges fell off the precipice results wise.

Since a 3-0 humbling at Old Trafford however, a change in formation and some personnel within the starting XI has acted as catalyst for stringing together an 11-match unbeaten run where 19 of the last 21 points have been banked.

Burnley are the next visitors to Anfield and while there are no easy games in the Premier League, as the Clarets’ recent point at Stamford Bridge attests, another maximum haul for Liverpool may well see their top-four price drop the uninviting side of evens.

On the eve of Burnley’s visit, it makes a ton of sense to grab Rodgers’ men at 5/4, especially as Arsenal and Man Utd both take to their travels during the midweek programme.
