Prickly customers Poland can dent Republic of Ireland hopes

Martin O’Neill has admitted his Republic of Ireland team are in “a tough old group” in Euro 2016 qualifying and he’s right on the money as Group D leaders Poland arrive at the Aviva Stadium.
Toppling bitter rivals and freshly-crowned world champions Germany for the first time in their history in only their second Group D match set the tone for Poland’s impressive campaign so far.
The Poles have collected 10 of 12 available points, to lead Germany, Scotland and Ireland as a trio of nations separated by only goal difference on seven.
Clearly a win for Ireland, rated at 7/5 by Ladbrokes, would be massive in the context, but that works both ways and in an evenly-matched contest there’s much to be said for half-a-points difference on the visitors at 19/10.
Perhaps a draw is the most attractive match bet of them all at 21/10, which would certainly suit the away side better.
The Aviva crowd will demand a response to the disappointing defeat to Scotland last time they appeared in the group, though this Polish team are well set up with pace on the counter attack.
Spearheaded by Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski in attack, Poland have bagged at least twice in all of their prior four matches making 2-3 goals for the away side very attractive at 21/10.
However, aside from netting a quadruple against minuscule minnows Gibraltar in game one, it’s not Lewandowski who has been doing the damage for the Poles.
Ajax’s 21-year-old forward Arkadiusz Milik has netted in each of his last three appearances for his country and is enjoying a brilliant debut season in the Eredivisie,.
