Poll: Is spitting the lowest thing you can do on a football pitch?

Published:

Manchester United defender Jonny Evans and Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse could both be in hot water with the FA after appearing to spit at each other during the Red Devils’ 1-0 over the Magpies at St James’ Park on Wednesday.

There have been growing calls for both players to be banned and while Ladbrokes ambassador Chris Kamara feesl both men should be given a chance to explain themselves he described spitting as “the lowest of the low”.

But is it the worst thing a footballer can do in a game?

A high tackle has the potential to end a player’s career, while the damage caused by a headbutt could be untold and a thrust of the head has seen one footballer jailed in the past.

The elbow is a controversial part of the game these days, with proof it was thrown on purpose hard to come by but are incidents such as Ben Thatcher’s forearm smash on Pedro Mendes worse than a gob on the cheek?

We know these are all deplorable parts of the game but with the nasty side of football rearing its head once again we’re giving you a chance to voice your opinion.

Which of these acts is the depth of depravity? Have your say by voting below. And if you’re from the old school and think all is fair in love and war once you cross the white line there’s another tiresome option in there for you too.
