With our neighbours from across the Irish Sea set for a frenzy in the streets of Dublin and plenty of the black stuff sure to go down a treat, we are embracing the party spirit.

That’s why with today’s poll we are focusing on some of the finest sports stars to emanate from the Emerald Isle.

So in today’s vote, we want to know which Irishman is set to have the biggest year in the world of sport?

Paul O’Connell

Named as captain for Ireland for the current Six Nations tournament, the lock reached three figures for the boys in green in their loss against Wales last time out.

As the fourth-most capped player in the country’s history, many will be looking to him to lead the line towards their final assault on glory both on Saturday, and this year’s World Cup.

Rory McIlroy

It could be a struggle for McIlroy to surpass a 2014 that saw him pick up two majors, win the Ryder Cup and return to the world number one spot.

But the 25-year-old is arguably entering this season in the form of his life and could go one better yet, having already tasted success in the Dubai Desert Classic in 2015.

Conor McGregor

‘The Notorious’ has been making great strides in UFC in recent years, with an impressive record of 17 wins from 19 bouts.

With an explosive array of punches, the Dublin-born fighter has won his last three bouts by knockout and head’s into a contest for the UFC Featherweight title in July in fine fettle.

Richard Hughes

His jump racing equivalent may be taking all the plaudits of late, but Hughes could be another champion jockey to bow out in style as he plots a career as a trainer.

With a third straight jockeys’ title in his sights before he retires from riding, horses like Ivawood and Tiggy Wiggy could be integral to his success in the year ahead.

Robbie Keane

He may be 35-years-young but Ireland’s top goalscorer of all-time still has plenty to give for both club and country.

Taking the MLS with LA Galaxy, a side he has netted 54 times in 85 appearances for, and qualification to the 2016 European Championships with his nation, could see him go down as one of Ireland’s best ever.
