Poll reaction: Morecambe hit the big time with premier pie offering

Next time you’re about to sink your teeth into a sub-standard pastry dish at a football ground – don’t!

You don’t have to put up with flavourless, lukewarm, stodgy pies with more pastry than filling and no-one is proving this more than the folks at the Globe Arena.

That is according to the latest Ladbrokes poll, which saw Morecambe FC win by an absolute landslide when we asked you which British club sells the best pies.

To be fair, with a wide variety of fillings – from Ham & Leek to Apple, Blackberry & Elderflower  – and recognition from the British Pie Awards in the shape of Gold and Bronze awards it’s perhaps not surprising to see the Shrimps take a whopping 43 per cent of the vote!

Liverpool, who are said to do a mean Balti chicken pie, came second with 17 per cent of the vote and the same number of people said none of our named clubs deserved the accolade!

Burnley picked up a commendable 13 per cent of the vote and earned a special mention for price with their tasty treats costing considerably less than the £4 hot dogs seen across the south of the country.

West Brom and Fulham, however, didn’t fare too well despite both boasting award-winning pies.

The Baggies picked up first, second and third prize in the 2013 British Pie Awards but took just seven per cent of our vote while the Cottagers, whose Steak & Ale offering is supposedly Silver award standard, brought up the rear with a paltry three per cent.
