#MasterAtWork: Rangi Chase honoured for epic piece of skill

Published:

Salford Red Devils star Rangi Chase has been named the February winner of Ladbrokes #MasterAtWork trophy after displaying some incredible skills against Hull FC.

The England man’s quick thinking, fancy handling and eye for a pass set team mate Josh Griffin up to go over in the 32-28 victory over The Cream.

Words don’t do Chase’s exploits justice so for those who haven’t yet seen it – or those who have but just can’t get enough – here it is again in all its glory.

The Ladbrokes #MasterAtWork trophy highlights a moment of brilliance or a sustained period of excellence by a team or individual on a monthly basis and after inaugural winner Jon Stead picked up the January prize for his FA Cup heroics Chase is a worthy recipient to follow that up.

The Salford man was quick to play down his efforts though, insisting that the Red Devils’ success that day came as a result of an overall team push.

“At the time I had two players coming to meet me and I had to sell it to the Hull FC defence that I was going to go forward with the ball,” he told Ladbrokes News.

“You have a few split seconds to make a decision like that and the only way I could get that ball out to Josh Griffin on the wing was to pass the ball behind my back and it came off. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t but I’ve been practising things like that since I was a little kid and I’m glad it worked.”

Commenting on being named the winner of February’s trophy, Chase thanked his team mates and said he hoped that the recognition his skills have received will attract more people to Super League in the future.

“I’m happy to be receiving the Ladbrokes #MasterAtWork award but it was definitely a team effort to get the win on Saturday. It’s also been great the amount of exposure a split second decision has given rugby league over the past few days too,” he added.
