Manchester United flop not the only Colombian out to impress

A return of four goals in 19 appearances for Manchester United offers up an indication of why Radamel Falcao looks unlikely to remain at Old Trafford but the Colombian did his chances no harm last time out for his national side.

Two goals and an assist against Bahrain was not a bad return for a striker supposedly out of form and the 29-year-old was not the only Los Cafeteros star who made the headlines.

Like Falcao, former Hertha Berlin striker Adrian Ramos has found himself labelled as something of a flop at his new club.

Signed by Borussia Dortmund for an undisclosed fee last summer, the 29-year-old arrived off the back of his best season to date in the Bundesliga.

Turning out for unfashionable Hertha, the seasoned poacher had racked up an impressive 16 goals in 32 league appearances – the fourth highest tally in the German top-flight.

Something of an all-round goalscorer who is both skilful yet able to offer plenty in the way of aerial threat, Ramos had looked perfect for the Premier League and appeared to be keen on the idea of a move to England too.

Speaking to South American news source El Tiempo while still with Hertha back in January of last year, the striker appeared tight-lipped on his future, though he had an obvious preference.

“I am under contract with Hertha Berlin until June 2015,” he said.

“But everyone knows that the Premier League is the best league in the world. Which player would refuse to play there if he receives an offer to do so?”

Yet despite signalling a desire to play in England, the opportunity to play Champions League football under Jurgen Klopp proved too good to turn down.

How Ramos must regret that decision now, with BVB in the midst of a stormy season in the Bundesliga that even saw them flirt with relegation.

The Colombian has so far managed just six goals in 22 appearances for Dortmund, with the South American rarely given a decent run in the German side.

To date, Ramos has started just six games for the Bundesliga giants but despite the stop-start nature of his spell at the club so far, could still offer plenty to a Premier League outfit seeking another goalscorer.

On the score sheet in that same 6-0 victory over Bahrain, Ramos represents an inexpensive alternative to Falcao and has certainly proven himself able to find the net regularly with a lesser top-flight team.

Impress in a friendly with Kuwait this week and the Colombian could just get a second chance at playing in the Premier League, which is more than you can say for Falcao.
