Gareth Bale could be set for a spell on the sidelines, if the latest Ladbrokes odds are to be believed.

The bookmaker has the 25-year-old at 11/4 to be dropped for Real Madrid’s Champions League clash with Schalke on Tuesday night.

Bale is also 9/4 to start among the substitutes when Los Merengues face Levante in La Liga on Sunday.

It comes after a weekend to forget for the reigning European champions, who went down to a 1-0 defeat away to Athletic Bilbao at the San Mames on Saturday.

Bale was singled out as the chief culprit by Real Madrid fans, with Spanish daily AS reporting the results of a supporters poll that showed many wanted to Welshman to be dropped.

Quizzed on who should be dropped out of Karim Benzema, Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo – the attacking trio nicknamed BBC – the ex-Tottenham star garnered 46.1 per cent of the vote.

Record goalscorer CR7 was a surprising second with 32.2 per cent of the vote while Real’s French forward grabbed 21.7 per cent.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: “A poll from the readers of Spanish daily AS suggests Bale is the most likely of the three to be dropped and the odds certainly back up that vote.”

Reports surrounding Bale’s place in the Real Madrid first 11 have also sparked speculation that the 25-year-old could yet seek a move away.

Manchester United are the overwhelming favourites to land the winger, with the Red Devils 7/4 to sign Bale according to Ladbrokes.

Chelsea and Paris Saint Germain are their nearest challengers with both teams priced at 6/1 to recruit the former Southampton academy youngster.
