Manchester City looking to AS Monaco for Clichy competition

Arsenal’s trip to Stade Louis II to face AS Monaco could be of particular interest to Manchester City this week with the Sky Blues keeping close tabs on a rising star at the Principality club.
The Sky Blues’ Premier League title aspirations lie in tatters after Saturday’s shock 1-0 defeat to Burnley and with that result all but conceding defeat to Chelsea in the battle for top spot, City may now begin to turn their attentions to next season.
One man who appears to be in the club’s plans for the future is AS Monaco left-back Layvin Kurzawa.
A 22-year-old left-back by trade, Kurzawa has won rave reviews in France for both his attacking flair and defensive contributions for the Ligue 1 side.
Capable and confident on the ball, the Monaco youngster has developed a reputation for producing marauding runs forward, usually finished off with a first-rate pass or cross to one of his teammates.
Though any move to City would see the 22-year-old competing with the likes of Gael Clichy for a starting berth, the Sky Blues appear determined to get their man.
The Daily Star previously reported that the Sky Blues were lining up a £17m bid for the defender with The Mirror also confirming the 2014 Premier League champions’ interest.
A fine showing against Arsenal could further enhance his reputation as one of Europe’s hottest young full-backs but progress could prove costly to Manchester City with a quarter-final appearance only likely to add to the price tag already on his head.
Kurzawa has courted controversy in the past too, having clashed with the Sweden under-21 team after celebrating a goal for Les Bleus with a mocking salute to the opposition that came back to haunt him when the Scandinavians fought back to win.
Keep such antics in check, however, and he could prove a worthy acquisition for a team in need of fresh ideas.
