Liverpool’s top predator boosted for opener against Blackburn

Bang-in form Liverpool host Championship side Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup’s last eight and anyone pondering a wager on the contest with Ladbrokes should be particularly pleased.

The bookmakers are enhancing Daniel Sturridge to break the Anfield deadlock, out from 3/1 to 4/1 from 8.00 am Sunday.

Having missed such a large chunk of the season through injury, Sturridge was always going to take a while to get back to the levels which saw him rack up a career-high tally of 25 goals last season.

However, in his very first game back against West Ham he gave the Kop a taste of what they’d been craving for six long months by scoring late to seal victory as a second-half substitute.

Predatory instincts clearly still intact, the former Manchester City and Chelsea striker has steadily been working back to showroom condition and he’s almost ready to drive off the forecourt ahead of Rovers’ visit.

Sturridge’s clinical finish in the last round of the FA Cup kick-started Liverpool’s comeback win over Crystal Palace and his all-round play and fitness has been improving since that game in mid February.

A well-guided near-post header in his last outing against Burnley just four days prior to this match capped his sharpest display in a red shirt since returning on the final day of January.

The England striker will be raring to go when the whistle blows on Sunday afternoon and at these odds he rates a fine choice to set the scoring wheels in motion.
