Liverpool renew interest in signing Everton’s Euro tormentor

Everton found out firsthand what a talent Dynamo Kiev have in their ranks and now it seems Merseyside rivals Liverpool are keen to relieve the Ukrainians of flying winger Andriy Yarmolenko this summer.

The Toffees were blown away 5-2 in their second-leg Europa League tie against Kiev and Yarmolenko reminded the continent’s top clubs just why he’s been coveted by the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United in the past.

The 25-year-old scored one on the night, but his overall impact on the game was outstanding with his pace and trickery a constant menace to the backpedalling Everton defence.

Now the Daily Star on Sunday reports that Liverpool, who’ve been linked with the forward before, could be prepared to splash out a fee in the region of £20m for his services in the next transfer window.

These rumours are given more credence by the fact Brendan Rodgers and co may well be forced into buying a player of Yarmolenko’s profile to potentially replace Raheem Sterling.

The 20-year-old Liverpool forward is refusing to sign an extension to his Anfield deal and tongues are wagging that huge wages on offer at Manchester City have turned his head.

Rodgers has reiterated that the club will be doing everything they can to ensure Sterling remains on the club’s books, but if money is the main sticking point then City hold all the aces.

Having crashed out of Europe themselves, Liverpool’s only chance of silverware this season remains the FA Cup, where they are the 9/4 second favourites to lift it.

However, three more games starting with a tricky away replay at Blackburn Rovers in the quarters are still to be won for this achievement to be reached.
