Forget the pineapple – Xavier has football’s worst hair

He may have had to endure weekly chants of “He’s got a pineapple on his head” but Jason Lee’s dodgy barnet isn’t the worst in football’s history – not by a long shot.
With #HairObsession trending on twitter earlier today we asked you to vote for the worst hair to ever grace a pitch and while Lee’s pineapple saw him take second place with 17 per cent of the votes his tally was dwarfed by that of former Liverpool ace Abel Xavier.
The Portuguese full-back was a sight for sore eyes during his Premier League stints with the Reds, Everton and Middlesbrough with his peroxide blonde hair and beard combo making him easily identifiable form the stands.
It may have made him stand out from the crowd on Match of the Day but with half of the votes coming in for the defender he can safely assume it wasn’t worth it!
As mentioned above, Lee, who blamed the persistent banter on a bad run of form while at Nottingham Forest, was the second most popular choice on a par with other – which to be fair could have all been for David Beckham and any of his many, many horror shows.
Colombia ace Carlos Valderrama, with his big, bouncy, blonde ball of curls, took eight per cent and earned joint placing with Ronaldo’s World Cup patch!
And it seems that no one agreed with our decision to include Germany’s Rudi Voller in our original top five. We thought the perm-mullet-tache combo made him guilty as charged but with zero per cent of the votes it seems there are worse offenders out there.
