Former England international has advice for Tottenham youngster

If Harry Kane is to have any impact for England against Lithuania, he needs to approach the game in the same way he would for Tottenham, according to Phil Neville.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Ladbrokes News, the former Manchester United and Everton stalwart, who earned 59 caps for England during his playing days , urged the Spurs forward to continue doing what he’s been doing this season.

“Kane has played a certain way and scored so many goals playing a certain way so when he gets into that England team, which can be quite daunting, he must not change his style,” he said.

“Don’t try and do something different to what got him in the squad in the first place.”

The 38-year-old was speaking from his experience with the Three Lions, as a player who saw many England debutants come and go during his time in the team.

“I see it with so many people where they play a certain way and they come into the England team and all of a sudden they feel as if they have to be someone they are not and try fancy things when really they have just got to do the things that got them there.”

Neville also spoke of how impressed he has been by Kane’s approach to the call-up, with the Tottenham striker outlining his desire to make a major impact for England during his post-match interview after Spurs’ 4-3 victory over Leicester.

“That is the right attitude to have,” he said.

“Don’t just meet up thinking I’m happy to be part of the squad. Kane deserves to be there and he should be challenging Daniel Sturridge for a starting position.”

Kane is expected to start Friday’s Euro 2016 qualifier with Lithuania, with the Liverpool striker already withdrawn from the squad through injury.

Impress there and the Reds man could find it difficult to get back in the team.
