Don’t panic Sunderland! Advocaat is no Magath, says pundit

Sunderland’s appointment of well-travelled coach Dick Advocaat may have initially appeared to be a leftfield choice.
But in an effort to save the Black Cats from the dreaded Premier League drop the decision to replace Gus Poyet with the former Holland and Rangers boss has been described as a “no-brainer”.
That’s the opinion of Ladbrokes ambassador and Sky Sports pundit, Chris Kamara.
He told Ladbrokes News: “As has been intimated, getting Advocaat in was probably something the board had considered before we all found out about it.
“I’m not saying that it would have been agreed to get rid of Poyet before the Aston Villa game but I presume the club did their homework to see who’s available should Sunderland get a bad result.”
The Wearsiders’ 4-0 hammering at the Stadium of Light sealed the Uruguayan’s fate. And in Kammy’s view the club have now got the right man in to dig them out of a hole.
“When you look at the CV of Advocaat and someone of his calibre then it starts to make sense, it’s a no brainer for him to come in” he added.
“There’s already been a positive reaction from some of the players and he could well have a similar effect to that of Tim Sherwood at Villa.”
However, given Advocaat’s supposed emphasis on strict discipline, can we draw comparisons between his appointment and the disastrous Fulham reign of fellow task master, Felix Magath?

“I’m no expert on world football but I knew a bit about Felix Magath and I thought Fulham were taking a gamble.
“But I think this is a different situation and you can’t make the same comparison. Advocaat isn’t a Magath and he looks unlikely to lead Sunderland down a similar path.”
