Barkingham Palace Gold Cup settles the royal baby guessing game

Published:

It’s official. The royal baby will be called Alexandra. Well, that is according to the result of Ladbrokes’ Barkingham Palace Gold Cup.

The bookmaker set about solving the question on everyone’s lips by hosting their own corgi race in central London.

Each of the 10 participants was adorned with a potential royal baby name, and it was Alexandra that came out on top.

It was a closely run thing though, with 100/1 shot Camilla forcing a photo finish in one of the most tense climaxes to a race we’ve ever seen.

You can view all the action in our video below, with Ladbrokes’ own Alex Donohue providing the paddock picks in the build-up…

After Alexandra took her place atop the podium, and as she stood to attention as the national anthem booming, Ladbrokes’ Jessica Bridge had this to say:

“Alexandra romped to victory and it looks like Kate will soon be giving birth to a little girl next month. Royal baby betting is booming and the arrival of a new heir to the throne is sure to see a record amount of wagers placed.”

The victory wasn’t enough to dislodge ‘Elizabeth’ from the top of the market at 5/1, but surely it must be a sign?

Taking the 8/1 available on ‘Alexandra’ looks the obvious thing to do with, let’s face it, you’d be barking not to!
