Barca star’s outrage gives Liverpool a boost in their pursuit
As Paris Saint-Germain were busy knocking Chelsea out of the Champions League, rumours emerged that the French giants were on the cusp of adding to that joy by signing Barcelona right-back Dani Alves.
However it seems that pursuit of the Brazilian is far from complete as the player himself took to social media to rubbish the reports.
As Alves informed his Instagram followers that he is “a little tired of listening to people talk s***”, his seeming disdain for the thought of joining Zlatan Ibrahimovic and co in Paris must buoy Liverpool.
The Merseyside club are long-time admirers of the the 31-year-old and could well view Alves’ recent outrage as a positive in their quest for his signature.
Alves is in the final six months of his contract at the Camp Nou and has yet to settle on renegotiated terms with the Spanish club, opening the possibility of a free-transfer elsewhere this summer.
Still, a few obstacles lie in the Reds’ path. Not least among them is Alves proclamation in that same social media outburst that “”I love this club until death and I’d stay forever.”
If Barca no longer want him, however, it would be extremely awkward for Alves to keep hanging around after being released and on that basis Liverpool are still in the running.
A further issue surrounds Manchester United’s shared interest in the Brazilian.
Any fight for Alves’ services is likely to come down to which team can offer the better European football, with the Red Devils ahead of their bitter rivals on that count as 8/11 top-four chances compared to 11/10 about Liverpool.
It’s Brendan Rodgers’ outfit that hold the far better form in that regard though, having won their last four and going unbeaten in their last 12.
Should they reach the Champions League, Alves’ marauding wing-back abilities will perfectly suit Rodgers’ 3-4-3 formation.
