Super League team guide: Wakefield hoping to put last season to rest

Published:

Team Name: Wakefield Trinity

Nickname: Wildcats

Ground: Belle Vue

Famous Fans: The Cribs, Michael Parkinson, Jane MacDonald

Super League Wins: None

Last Season: 12th

New Signings: Craig Hall (Hull KR), Michael Simon (Catalans), Matty Ashurst (Salford), Lopini Paea (Catalans), Chris Riley (Warrington), Tim Smith (Salford), Richard Owen (Castleford), Ian Kirke (Leeds), Jacob Miller (Hull FC).

Head Coach: James Webster

Aussie Webster has bags of playing experience, having featured for NRL side Parramatta and both Hull KR and Hull FC in Super League. The 35-year-old will hope that he can pass his knowledge on and help the Wildcats improve on last season’s 12th placed finish.

Having won three of his four games in charge, and drawing the other, Webster may have installed some confidence and belief in to the squad which could translate into a solid start for Trinity.

Star Man: Pita Godinet

The 27-year-old Samoa international was everywhere for the Wildcats during his debut season, heavily involved in the action on all fronts.

The former New Zealand Warrior chipped in with six tries – just three behind top scorer Reece Lyne – and was also the club’s biggest provider with nine assists and second highest tackler with 414.
