Sunderland v QPR: Jermain Defoe going to score for Black Cats

Published:

For so long linked with a move to QPR under Harry Redknapp, Jermain Defoe could be about to wreak havoc on the hapless R’s with the London club visiting the Stadium of Light and the 32-year-old already in the goalscoring mood at his new club.

Rangers remain without a point on the road in the Premier League and could be in line for more away day misery on Wearside with the Black Cats out to avenge a 1-0 defeat at Loftus Road back at the start of the season.

Sunderland are the 10/11 favourites for the win with the R’s back at 3/1 and a draw offered at 12/5 with Ladbrokes though we have opted for three decidedly different selections in our three best bets – read on to find out what they are.

Jermain Defoe to score at any time @ 6/4

The former England man has already scored twice as many Premier League goals for Sunderland as Jozy Altidore managed in an entire season at the club and could be set to continue that fine form against a hapless QPR defence who will also be without Richard Dunne.

Defoe’s goals against Burnley and Swansea have already equated to four points for the Mackems and with Rangers shipping goals in each of their last six and conceding two or three in their previous five games away from home, Sunderland’s new man could continue his fine form.

Sunderland to win and both teams to score @ 16/5

Though QPR have rarely been able to defend away from Loftus Road in the Premier League they nevertheless look a good shout to also get in on the goalscoring action having scored in each of their last four losses on the road in the English top-flight.

In fact the R’s have scored in six of their 11 losses away from west London going into this game and could get on the scoresheet again against a Sunderland side that won 3-1 away at Fulham on their last visit to the capital.

Mauro Zarate to score at any time @ 10/3

With Charlie Austin potentially sidelined through injury and Bobby Zamora rarely a reliable source of goals the onus could fall on one of Rangers’ few January recruits, Zarate, who has already found the net in the Premier League this season.

The talented but troubled Argentine has scored against Everton and Crystal Palace this term and after finding the net during a loan stint with Birmingham City in the Premier League looks a solid pick to get his name on the scoresheet at the Stadium of Light.
