Slaven Bilic the value bet to replace Sam Allardyce at West Ham

The rumours that Sam Allardyce had been sacked were quickly denied by the West Ham hierarchy, but with the Irons without a win in four matches, the former Bolton man’s time in east London could soon be coming to an end.

A lacklustre performance against West Brom in their 4-0 FA Cup defeat would have been the last straw for some Hammers’ fans.

The 60-year-old’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and with odds on him to be the next Premier League manager to leave this season (5/2) suggesting he may not make it that far, all eyes will be on who is set to succeed him in the Boleyn Ground dug-out.

So without further ado, we take a look at a trio of candidates that could start West Ham’s final season at their home of 111 years in the hotseat.

Slaven Bilic – 8/1 to be next West Ham boss

A no-nonsence centre-back for the Hammers in the mid-late 1990s, Bilic has recently refused to be drawn on whether he has been in talks to replace Allardyce.

He has however in the past been coy on taking over the reins in E13.

When linked with the job back in 2008, the then-Croatia boss had this to say:

“I’m not going anywhere. West Ham is my club, I have feelings for them but I won’t go.

“My wish is to stay for another two years here but, if I lose a couple of games and they say ‘off you go’ then maybe I will go,” leaving the door opening a move in the future.

Currently ensuring Besiktas stay top of the Turkish Superlig, it looks as if a spell back in the English capital could be on the cards at some point in the future.

David Moyes – 5/1

He may only just be perfecting his tan out in Sociedad, but the former Everton and Manchester United boss is reportedly one of the front-runners to step into Allardyce’s shoes.

The Scot’s exploits with Everton are reportedly seen as the perfect profile for a manager to come and work the same magic at West Ham by co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan.

Convince Moyes to leave Real Sociedad and the two Davids will be hoping he can replicate what he achieved when guiding Everton into the European positions.

But with his current San Sebastien club promising a war-chest to improve his squad with in the summer, it may be a tough task to twist the 51-year-old’s arm.

Marcelo Bielsa – 14/1

They may be sat towards the summit of Ligue 1, but Marcelo Bielsa’s relationship with the Marseille hierarchy is rocky to say the least.

The Argentine has spoken out over what he sees as interference from the club’s owner, in both signings and match day selections.

With a falling out only around the corner, a chance to manage in the Premier League could be hard to turn down for the Argentine.

And with Mauricio Pochettino attributing his managerial success to working under Bielsa at Newells Old Boys, he could have just the compatriot to advise him on a potential switch.
