Queens Park Rangers turn to shock Serie A target for goals

QPR’s desperate search for goalscoring reinforcements could see manager Harry Redknapp turn to a rather unusual option in the form of Cesena striker Gregoire Defrel.

According to a report carried by TuttoMercatoWeb, which cites ATAHOTEL as an exclusive source, Rangers are readying a bid for the Serie A striker.

The 23-year-old would represent something of a gamble for the London club but has impressed so far this season with Cesena, scoring five goals and providing a further two assists in 17 appearances this term.

Born in Meudon, France, the 5ft 11in striker started his career with Parma, before a solid season-long loan spell at Foggia brought him to the attention of the Cavallucci Marini.

Redknapp is thought to be in the market for a bargain this month with funds thought to be limited at Loftus Road due to the Financial Fair Play restrictions in place at the club.

The London club had been linked with a move for Redknapp’s former Tottenham charge Emmanuel Adebayor, but with Stoke now entering the race to recruit the Togo international, QPR may be forced to look elsewhere.

And while a loan deal is preferred, it is thought that Defrel could be available for a bargain price with

Cesena in the midst of a relegation battle and facing a likely demotion to Serie B.

Capable of playing as either an out-and-out striker, on the left-wing or in a secondary striker role, the Frenchman is valued at around £1.76m on Transfermarkt and could potentially move on a loan deal that carries an option for QPR to sign him at the end of the season.
