Next QPR manager: Ramsey frontrunner as favourites flounder

Published:

Caretaker manager Chris Ramsey has emerged as the new favourite to land the Queens Park Rangers job on a permanent basis, according to Ladbrokes.

The R’s coach is odds on at 8/11 with the bookmaker to make the Loftus Road hot seat his own having already guided the Londoners to a first away win of the season against Sunderland on Tuesday night.

Ramsey’s price has also been slashed in the wake of developments elsewhere with previous front-runners Tim Sherwood and Michael Laudrup now both seemingly out of the running to join the club.

Sherwood had been in discussions with QPR about a move into the vacant manager’s post but, as we reported last week, negotiations with the former Tottenham boss had stalled with the R’s confirming that discussions had reached a impasse on Wednesday.

The 46-year-old’s withdrawal from the race had seen former Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup move to the top of the market with Ladbrokes, at one point, refusing to take bets on the Dane who was odds on to replace Harry Redknapp.

But with Sky Sports News reporting that Laudrup has ruled himself out of the running to land the top job at QPR, several surprise contenders have emerged.

Former Southampton and Reading manager Nigel Adkins is 7/1 with Ladbrokes while Brentford boss Mark Warburton can be backed at 10/1 and looks a dark horse to land the job given his current problems at Griffin Park.

Several broadsheet newspapers had claimed earlier this week that Warburton could be sacked by Brentford regardless of how the club fare in the Championship this season.

Elsewhere, former Watford and West Ham United manager Gianfranco Zola remains in the running with the Italian available at 12/1.

Zola is currently in charge of Serie A strugglers Cagliari but could be tempted by a return to London, should the opportunity present itself.
