Price Boost: Liverpool hero’s first Spurs strike odds enhanced

Injury hasn’t allowed Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge to pad out his first-goalscorer stats too much this season, but a return to full health should see him start to rectify that when Tottenham travel to Anfield for a pivotal top-four clash.

After a 21-goal Premier League season last term, the England international has managed just two in five top-flight appearances this term during what has been an incredibly frustrating battle with his fitness.

During that breakout season in front of goal, Sturridge broke the deadlock in seven league games and, while he isn’t likely to match that total during the current campaign, he stands a good chance of getting the pursuit underway against the Lilywhites.

Tottenham have shipped the first goal 10 times in their 24 league games this term, including last time out against Arsenal, and have fallen behind to the Reds in all of their last four battles with them.

Combine that with the efficiency Liverpool have shown in scoring the game’s first goal, managing the feat in 15 of their 24 top-flight outings, and things look good for their England striker.

It’s just as well, then, that Ladbrokes have taken the decision to boost Sturridge’s price to score the opener when the north Londoners come to town, inflating his odds from 4/1 to 5s.

After the recent stalemate against local rivals Everton at the weekend, the former Chelsea man will surely be in line for a start as Brendan Rodgers looks to both freshen up his attack and add more potency to the front line.
