Meet the latest Benfica star to be touted for Liverpool move

Published:

Benfica’s talent is regularly the subject of interest from the Premier League and having snared Lazar Markovic last summer, Liverpool are reportedly eyeing up another raid on the Portuguese champions.

At 24, Eduardo Salvio is a few years Markovic’s senior, but he’s enjoying a wonderful campaign for the Primeira Liga champions, scoring eight goals in all competitions from the right flank.

Impressive stuff from the fleet-footed Argentine who has also weighed in with his fair share of assists to help his side forge a four-point gap over rivals Porto at the top of the table.

Brendan Rodgers has clearly had his interest piqued and is keen as mustard to add him to the Anfield ranks, though a work permit could become a huge obstacle in the road.

The South American has only appeared a handful of times for Argentina which greatly hampers his chances of successfully hurdling the EU rules applying to incoming Premier League players, though revisons to the system are in the offing.

If Salvio continues to hold such a great influence on Benfica’s success this season it is safe to say the transfer fee will not be modest, though there is a £20m precedent on Markovic.

The Liverpool winger had bedded himself into Rodgers’ side nicely in recent times before picking up a knock and sitting out the Merseyside derby.

However the misfortune of Raheem Sterling, who is set to miss the pivotal midweek fixture with Tottenham through injury, means Markovic’s chances of a recall are greatly enhanced.

The former Benfica man is a 13/5 chance to score against Spurs at anytime with Ladbrokes.
