Man Utd are missing a trick letting Liverpool sweet talk Ings

It seems a Liverpool summer deal for Burnley’s Danny Ings is as good as sewn up, with plenty of media sources leading with the line that the England Under-21 regular will choose Anfield when his Turf Moor contract runs out.
Due to the vagaries of the European transfer system, the Reds will have to pay up to £6m for the 22-year-old’s services, whereas David Moyes’ Real Sociedad, who had Ings over in Basque country recently for talks, would only be liable to pay Burnley around £300,000.
The former Southampton youth will likely forego a large signing on fee at La Real in favour of a move to last season’s Premier League runners-up, although the Merseysiders’ forward ranks seem to be growing out of hand.
Teenage Belgium international Divock Origi will arrive from Lille this summer to join Daniel Sturridge, Raheem Sterling and Lazar Markovic, as well as Fabio Borini, Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert, if the latter trio are still kicking around Anfield.
Ings is clearly well liked in English football circles, with Spurs and Chelsea also thought to be big admirers, but it seems unlikely he’ll dislodge Sturridge from the sole ‘big man’ striker spot seemingly on offer in Brendan Rodgers’ first team.
Bearing that in mind, it’s somewhat surprising Ings hasn’t plumped for a Spurs switch, seeing as Harry Kane is the only forward in the Lilywhites ranks currently being taken seriously.
An even more sensible move might have been to Manchester United, who will surely freshen up their forward ranks this summer, with on-loan Radamel Falcao far from certain to stay after struggling to settle at Old Trafford.
Robin van Persie has played as if in need of a rest for most of the campaign so far, and Louis van Gaal would rather stick Wayne Rooney in midfield, meaning none-too-prolific youngster James Wilson is currently the Dutchman’s next striker in line.
Alas, it seems it didn’t occur to the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ that a cut-price Ings could be a very useful addition next term.
