Man United flop gets one over on Liverpool with Burnley deal

Published:

Burnley’s Danny Ings has been the subject of endless speculation on his future during the January transfer window, with the striker being linked to a raft of bigger Premier League clubs. However, it seems his next club will be abroad if latest reports are to be believed.

According to BBC Radio 5 Live reporter Ian Dennis, David Moyes has pulled off something of a coup by tying Ings down to a pre-contract agreement with Real Sociedad:

Liverpool had been favoured in the pursuit of the 22-year-old, but it looks like they have been gazumped by the former Manchester United manager.

Ings’ debut season in the Premier League has been an impressive one, with the Hythe native scoring seven goals in 19 appearances for the Clarets, following the 21 he managed in the side’s Championship promotion campaign.

Should he complete the move abroad, which will be in the summer after his current contract expires, it would seal a fantastic career journey for the former Bournemouth trainee, who was playing non-league football just five years ago.
