Man City v Newcastle: Another home thumping heads 3 best bets

Published:

Much of the talk ahead Newcastle’s trip to Premier League champions Manchester City surrounds strikers, with Wilfried Bony set to debut for his new club and Sergio Aguero back in form, so we’ve pretty much stuck with the program at the Etihad.

Here are our three best bets:

Man City to win 4-0 @ 10/1

Plainly and simply, this scoreline has been the result of the past couple of Premier League fixtures between these two at the Etihad.

After failing to win five games in a row between January-February, City roared back last time out with a 4-1 thumping away to a Stoke outfit beaten just twice in their prior 10 top-flight encounters.

John Carver’s Magpies are in terrible form on the road, losing six and drawing two of their nine away matches since the end of November. A three-peat scoreline can’t be ruled out.

David Silva to score the first goal @ 5/1

Aguero and Bony take a serious chunk out of this market at boosted 7/2 odds and 10/3 respectively, but the Argentine ace’s opener against the Potters was his first for five games, stretching back since the end of November.

With Bony not guaranteed to start, despite the £28m fee, Silva ranks as the best alternative.

Three of the Spaniard’s past seven club-and-country strikes have broken the deadlock, and he bagged the first goal in this Etihad fixture last term, following his effort (City’s second) in the previous 4-0 win over the Geordies in 2012/13.

Vincent Kompany to score at any time @ 11/2

City’s skipper is without a goal this season, having bagged five all told in 2013/14, but in a fixture we expect goals from Kompany ranks as a decent punt.

The stalwart Belgium centre-half notched in this fixture to make it 3-0 a couple of years ago under Roberto Mancini. He has scored at least one post-Xmas goal for the club in each of the past three seasons, so another must be in the post.
