Is Liverpool’s inactivity a diversion for Real Madrid move?

Published:

Having splurged the bounty from selling Luis Suarez to Barcelona on a host of widely-recognised flops, Liverpool claim that they won’t be looking to remedy the problem on transfer deadline day.

A number of reports indicate that the Reds expect nobody to either join or leave the club on the country’s favourite 24 hours for speculation, but that could all just be a clever PR rouse.

Rickie Lambert, as we’ve already reported, is wanted by both Hull and West Brom, while the 5/1-rated top four outfit are linked with moves for Ezequiel Lavezzi and Andre-Pierre Gignac to replace the former Southampton striker.

However it’s a rumour in the Independent that is the most intriguing for fans of the Anfield club, with the paper reporting that Brendan Rodgers is weighing up a move for Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi.

However the former Swansea tactician wishes to canvass the opinion of former Liverpool stalwart Xabi Alonso before making any moves for the midfielder.
