Liverpool now lead the way for in-demand Premier League newcomer

Liverpool look to have won the race to sign highly-rated Burnley hot shot Danny Ings this summer, according to the latest odds from Ladbrokes.

The bookmaker has slashed the price on the 22-year-old signing for the Anfield club in the wake of recent reports that appeared to indicate the ex-Bournemouth man’s preference for the Reds.

According to The Daily Mirror, the striker is set to spurn David Moyes’ advances and the lure of playing in La Liga with Real Sociedad for a chance to turn out for Liverpool.

That report prompted Ladbrokes to slash the price on Ings signing for the Merseysiders this summer to 4/7 with Liverpool set to pay the Lancashire club £6m in compensation as part of any move.

Moyes may still have some faint hope of bringing him to Spain however with a move to La Real priced at 2/1 with the bookmaker.

Tottenham, meanwhile, could be set to miss out with the Lilywhites back at 11/2 while Manchester United are 10/1 and Chelsea a distant 40/1.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson explained: “Punters are backing Ings to ignore the miserable Merseyside weather and pick Liverpool over sunny Sociedad.”

The Reds host Manchester City this weekend with Brendan Rodgers hoping to take maximum advantage of any potential European hangover.

City were put to the sword by Barcelona at the Etihad earlier this week with manager Manuel Pellegrini coming in for some criticism after opting to start with two up front against the Catalans.

Elsewhere Ings will be hoping to get back among the goals for Burnley when they host Swansea City at Turf Moor this weekend.

The Clarets are in the relegation zone on goal difference alone, meaning any kind of positive result against the Swans could see them move up the table.
