Liverpool and Chelsea target free to make winter move after all

Manchester City defender Micah Richards faces a race against time to switch his Serie A loan move from Fiorentina to Inter, although with a host of Premier League clubs tracking his progress, the erstwhile England international’s future is far from secure.

Both Liverpool and Chelsea were recently mentioned as potential destinations for the 26-year-old, whose current City contract runs out this summer, while Tottenham and Newcastle are also thought to be interested in securing the versatile back’s services.

In the meantime, Richards looks likely to make the trek north west from Florence to Milan to join old City boss Roberto Mancini in San Siro for the rest of the campaign, and perhaps beyond.

It was thought that Richards couldn’t turn out for three clubs in one season after featuring in the Premier League champions’ 3-0 Community Shield defeat to Arsenal in August, but BBC Sport have cleared up the matter, insisting that UEFA counts that Wembley fixture as last season.

However, the Birmingham native must return to the Etihad in order to complete a new deal before he can head to Milan, so a lack of time could yet scupper the move.
