Lambert stays despite alleged late interest from West Ham

As Deadline Day approaches 11th hour one of the biggest transfer sagas of the January window has taken another dramatic twist.

Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert had been linked with a number of clubs, including Hull City and Aston Villa, but was there a new contender who’d thrown their hat in the ring?

Ladbrokes reported a flurry of bets placed on the former Southampton man joining West Ham with odds on such a move slashed from 12/1 to 8/1.

That was before the Anfield giants confirmed that the player WILL stay at the club despite a number of interested parties chasing his signature.

However, were West Ham one of those clubs and could such a move be resurrected in the summer?

Lambert’s future had been the subject of frenzied speculation in the lead-up to the window slamming shut with various reports linking the England international with a move away from Anfield.

Should the boyhood Reds fan eventually leave it would be a bitter pill to swallow having only signed for the club in June.

However, a return of just two goals in 17 league appearances has piled the pressure on the Liverpudlian as he’s struggled to lead the line in the absence of Daniel Sturridge.
