Inter Milan beat West Ham to Italian defender

Inter Milan have reportedly sealed a deal for Newcastle United defender Davide Santon according to new reports.

The Italian full-back has long been linked with a return to the San Siro, though previous reports suggested it was AC Milan, rather than Inter, who were chasing a deal for the 24-year-old.

Santon arrived at St James’ Park from the il Biscione back in August 2011, having fallen out of favour at the club prior to his arrival on Tyneside.

However, the return of Roberto Mancini to the Inter dugout has seen things change for Inter with the Nerazzurri linked with a move to bring the left-back in on a season-long loan over the weekend, according to The Chronicle

The former Manchester City manager is familiar with Santon, having presided over Inter while the Magpies man was at the club as a youngster.

And that looks to have played a decisive part in the move, with Santon confirming that he has chosen to return back to the club where he started his career.

Injuries have restricted Santon’s impact at Newcastle this season, with the Italian yet to make a single appearance for the Magpies in the Premier League this term.

Inter Milan were not alone in being linked with a move for the defender though, with West Ham United also thought to be keen on signing the player.

Meanwhile Nerazzurri midfielder Yann M’Vila could be set for a move away from the club with QPR thought to be keen on signing the Frenchman on a loan deal until the end of the season.
