Huddersfield Giants aiming for major final, says Broughton

Published:

They may have been nilled by Hull FC in their opening game of the season but Huddersfield’s Jodie Broughton is expecting big thing for the Giants this term.

The 27-year-old speedster has set the bar high this season, claiming a major final is a must for his side and also claims one Fartown youngster could prove the difference.

Here the former Salford man tells Ladbrokes News of his hopes for the season and how Wigan star Martin Offiah was a huge inspiration.

What would be a successful season for Huddersfield in Super League XX?

I think we need to get to a major final. That’s probably a prerequisite for this season. We’ve been up there in past seasons but not come away with any silverware so I think we need to get to a final and hopefully win one.

If you could pick any other Super League player to sign for Huddersfield this year who would you pick and why?

Sonny Bill Williams is an absolute legend of the game in both codes and is a force to be reckoned with and everybody knows who he is so it’d probably be him or Sam Burgess.

Who will be the next big thing at Huddersfield?

Jake Connor. He’s only 20 years old but he can do things with a ball I‘ve never seen other people do. He looks half asleep most of the time but his reactions are unreal.

If Ladbrokes gave you a free £100 bet (other than Huddersfield) to win the Super League who would pick and why?

Hah, that’s illegal!! But for the purpose of this I think we’ll finish top of the league. Otherwise Wigan will be up there.

Ladbrokes are the proud new sponsors of the Challenge Cup, what is your favourite memory of the competition?

I just remember watching as a kid and I remember that try that Martin Offiah scored. I fancy myself as a bit of a speedster so he was an idol for me growing up and when he scored that try and dropped to his knees that is a moment that sticks in my mind.
