Froome and Thomas success may be start of an epic 2015 for Team Sky

Team Sky look to be in an extremely strong position ahead of the cycling Classics of 2015, after the outfit posted one of their best weekends of results in their five-year history.

With Geraint Thomas taking the Volta ao Algarve and Chris Froome seeing off old rival Alberto Contador to win the Ruta del Sol, cycling’s biggest prizes all looked achievable for the Manchester-based outfit.

The team have real hopes in the Classics, as well as a red-hot favourite for the big one itself, Le Tour de France.

Chris Froome to win Le Tour de France – 9/4

Triumph over his regular adversary Contador will have launched the Kenya-born cyclist’s season in some style, but the ultimate goal is surely to land a second Tour.

His effort of 2014 is best written off with three crashes in two days preceding his exit from the competition at a relatively early stage.

The 29-year-old has now tasted victory in his season opener in the last three years, but will need to return to the form of 2013 if he is to don that famous yellow jacket again in July.

Geraint Thomas to win the Tour of Flanders – 33/1        

Thomas will also be looking for to write off one of his events last year and get back with a bang in Belgium.

An early crash in the competition left the Welshman battered and bruised and threatened to force his exit from the event.

But he battled back to finish a highly respectable eighth.

Avoidance of a similar accident again could see him go close at a massive price.

Ben Swift to win the Milan-San Remo – 40/1

The 2010 Tour De Picardie winner has spoken about how he has had the perfect winter with no setbacks, and is raring to go.

And after finishing an impressive third on a first attempt of ‘The Spring Classic’ he is a very tempting odds to go two better 12 months on.

He may be a very big price, but remember last year’s winner Alexander Kristoff was available at 33/1 before a massive final sprint saw him take the crown in western Italy.

Bradley Wiggins to win Paris-Roubaix – 14/1

It would perhaps be apt for Bradley Wiggins to bid farewell to road racing in style with victory in perhaps one of the toughest events on the calendar.

The 2012 winner of Le Tour had these words to say about the event:

“I’d love to win Roubaix, and a lot of people are saying it’s a fairy tale ending, but it’s so unpredictable.

“I’d love to moonwalk as well, but sometimes you have to accept you can’t do certain things in life, and I may never win Roubaix. It won’t be for the lack of trying, same as if I took lessons to try to moonwalk, which I’ll never do to the extent of Michael Jackson.”

It may be an arduous task, but ‘Sir Brad’ certainly retains plenty of star quality.
