Everton eye sought after Kiwi with Distin sweetening the deal

Reports have been doing the rounds all deadline day long that West Ham are weighing up a move for veteran Everton centre-half Sylvain Distin, but Sky Sports have only recently reported that the Toffees are attempting to take Winston Reid to Goodison Park.

Reid only has five months left to run on his contract and Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs are rumoured to be preparing offers to secure his services on a free transfer in the summer.

Only a couple of hours ago the Evening Standard claimed the Lilywhites were favourites to snag Reid at the end of the campaign, but conceded that West Ham may do business before this window closes if an offer of over £6m comes in for the New Zealand captain.

Roberto Martinez has clearly signalled the end of the road for Distin on Merseyside, with the 37-year-old ‘in talks’ in east London, and the Blues gaffer will be left with only oft-injured former Wigan bruiser Antolin Alcaraz to back up England pair John Stones and Phil Jagielka in the heart of defence.

Under such circumstances there should be plenty of first-team football on offer at centre-half, and with the prospect of a run through the Europa League knockout stages at Everton during the rest of this campaign, Reid may be tempted to move if he receives a chunky pay deal.
