Arsenal v Leicester: Giroud ‘Gunner’ blast Foxes boss into oblivion

| 10.02.2015

With Aston Villa and, in particular, Hull putting in improved displays over the weekend, Nigel Pearson has emerged as a dark horse to be the next Premier League manager to leave his post – and Arsenal could seal his fate.

The Foxes manager drew unwanted attention at the weekend, not only because his Leicester team went down to an abject 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, but also for the fact that he was involved in a spat of sorts with James McArthur.

Alan Pardew, of all people, watched on as Pearson grappled with the Eagles midfielder in a coming together that was equal parts friendly banter and passive aggressive tussle and possibly the least helpful thing the Leicester manager could have done ahead of a trip to the Emirates.

Arsenal are overwhelming favourites for victory at 2/7 with the Foxes 10/1 and a draw 9/2 though with the weekend still fresh in the mind it’s the Gunners who must be backed to record a potentially fatal defeat on Pearson  – here are three of the best bets available.

Olivier Giroud to score first @ 10/3

The Frenchman may have failed to get among the goals at White Hart Lane but he remains in solid form in front of net with five in his last seven Premier League outings, including openers against Newcastle and most recently Aston Villa at the Emirates.

With Leicester conceding first in each of their previous four competitive outings, Arsenal look the more likely to find the net first and, with Alexis Sanchez potentially on the bench, the 28-year-old looks the standout pick to score.

Arsenal (-2) to beat Leicester @ 13/8

Despite suffering a setback against eternal rivals Tottenham at the weekend, Arsenal look likely to return to home comforts at the Emirates, having won each of their last seven competitive games at their north London home going into this fixture.

With a 4-1 win over Newcastle, a 3-0 triumph against Stoke and most recently a 5-0 victory over Aston Villa to their name, backing the Gunners for another high-scoring success looks a good tip with Leicester on a run of three straight defeats in the Premier League, scoring once along the way.

Arsenal v Leicester – 1-0 at half-time @ 9/4

The old refrain of 1-0 to the Arsenal has taken on a new meaning in recent weeks at the Emirates with the Gunners going in one goal up in four of their last five home outings in all competitions and with a great price available this could be the easiest money of the week.
