Arsenal in the clear to continue recent huge signings trend

Should Arsene Wenger land his latest rumoured transfer target, it would have to be considered a greater coup than any of the uncharacteristic lavish spending he’s sanctioned over the last few windows.

Mesut Ozil was a good start for the Frenchman, who had been implored to dip into the market for an eon by Arsenal fans prior to the former Real Madrid man’s capture, but that was topped by claiming the signature of Alexis Sanchez in the summer as the Chilean has been a revelation at the Emirates this season.

According to many column inches in the transfer world though, the Gunners could be on the verge of landing an even bigger fish.

Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus may not be viewed as a better player than Sanchez now, but as one of the top prospects in German football he certainly has the potential to be.

That Arsenal are at the front of a queue which contains Manchester United and Liverpool should also be viewed favourably by the north Londoners, with the forward’s willingness to work with Arsene Wenger supposedly the telling factor that is tipping the scales.

With Bayern Munich, usually the first port of call for burgeoning German talent, out of the running to sign Reus, the 4/9 top-four challengers look to be in the clear to activate the player’s £20m release clause this summer.
