Struggling at the bottom of League One, with three defeats on the bounce, Gary Johnson’s Yeovil Town will have hoped the FA Cup might have offered some respite.
And with Manchester United coming to town, the pressure will be off the Glovers as they set off as 11/1 underdogs to put the Red Devils out in the third round for the third time in five years.
Louis van Gaal’s men have begun to turn a corner this season and are now well and truly fighting it out in the top 4. They are 2/9 for victory in Somerset, with a draw available at 11/2.
But with little value in the match winner market, we’ve dug out three more value-laden propositions.
The FA Cup has given the Huish Park faithful something to cheer about, with Gary Johnson’s men floundering in the league in front of the their own fans.
Indeed, their only two wins in the last three-and-a-half months on their own patch have come in this competition.
But with Crawley and Accrington those two victims, this step up in class of opponent will come as a struggle.
Furthermore, they haven’t scored at home in the league since October 18, a run of six games.
Expect Louis van Gaal’s men to win without conceding.
The one piece of solace that the underdogs can perhaps take into this match is United’s 4-0 shock defeat to MK Dons in the Capital One Cup earlier this season.
They will know that an upset is possible and will strive to make a name for themselves.
But Van Gaal is shrewd enough to know that he cannot afford another early cup exit, and may ensure that his side take things one step at a time, and look to make their quality count late on.
The 11-time cup winners have only led at half-time once in their 12 away games this season, so backing to draw up a stalemate in the opening 45 before powering clear late on, might be a spot of value.
Nevertheless, the attacking might that the visitors can enforce would have even the most optimistic Yeovil fan quaking in his boots.
And one man that can be relied on in the cup is Wayne Rooney.
The former Everton striker has netted 17 goals in 24 FA Cup starts for the north-west outfit, and with the strength of opposition here likely to be of lesser quality than many of those goals were scored against, should be fancied to deliver something special in the West Country.
