Despite the wealth of playing and financial riches at the Etihad club’s disposal, Manchester City could still do with adding another striker to the likely purchase of Wilfried Bony.
Meanwhile, with Matija Nastasic on his way out and the likes of Martin Demichelis and Eliaquim Mangala not convincing in defence, the club could do with adding an experienced stopper to their ranks.

Ross Barkley (Everton)
With Everton on something of a downward slope, the recruitment of Barkley, who could prove to be the ideal stop-gap in the immediate absence of Yaya Toure due to the African Cup of Nations, looks a good shout.
The 21-year-old looks destined for bigger things than the Toffees and could add an extra dimension to City’s midfield play with the club also able to offer the England youngster Champions League football.
Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund)
Linked with almost every big club going in England at present, Dortmund’s current slump in the Bundesliga means Hummels may be tempted into a move to the Premier League while BVB may well oblige in a bid to ensure he doesn’t end up at Bayern Munich.
A solid defender who impressed for Germany at the World Cup, Hummels could be the long-elusive partner captain Vincent Kompany and City fans everywhere have been waiting for.
Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund)
Another Dortmund star being linked with a move to the Etihad, Reus could be available for £25m which may sound like a lot to some but is relative pennies to City.
Capable of operating in an attacking midfield role or further forward, he could prove to be the ideal acquisition alongside Bony, helping the Sky Blues to bolster their attacking options and ward off the treat of nearest challengers Chelsea.

Fabricio Coloccini (Newcastle United)
Laugh if you will but Coloccini has long been regarded as one of the best defenders in the Premier League, albeit one operating in a rather mediocre Magpies side, and could be available in a cut-price deal.
Despite being into his 30s the Argentine would offer the kind of top-flight experience needed to slot in alongside Kompany and with a change of manager at Newcastle he could yet be open to a move away and the chance to win silverware.
