Transfer Wishlist: All change for Liverpool’s failing strikers

Published:

Which areas do they need to strengthen?

Arguably Brendan Rodgers’ suspect choice of defensive recruitments last summer means that an almost immediate overhaul of his backline is required.

In reality however, the Northern Irishman must ensure he gets far more out of the likes of Dejan Lovren and Alberto Moreno in the second half of the season, but up front he must act decisively in the January trasfer window.

The Premier League’s top scorers of last season trail co-leaders Chelsea and Manchester City by 16 goals, while summer signings Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert have contributed a single top-flight strike between them.

Who have they been linked with?

Xherdan Shaqiri, Divock Origi, James Milner, Saido Berahino, Petr Cech, Shinji Okazaki, Paulo Dybala, Miralem Pjanic

January Wishlist Best Buys

Xherdan Shaqiri (Bayern Munich)

Chances of Signing: The player looks certain to leave the Allianz Arena this month, it is just a question of which reports you believe as to where he’ll end up. Some sources quoted a £10m deal with Liverpool being all-but sewn up, but others suggest Inter Milan have now stolen a march.

Petr Cech: (Chelsea)

Chances of Signing: Slim. Chelsea don’t usually do much business with Premier League rivals and Jose Mourinho will be doing everything in his power to keep last season’s runners-up out of future title pictures.

Saido Berahino: (West Brom)

Chances of Signing: This is a deal which has legs, although it looks likely to hinge upon Liverpool shelling some of their pile of deadwood strikers first in order to cough up the mooted £20m+ required to satisfy the Baggies.

We Recommend…

Edin Dzeko (Manchester City)

The Bosnian has long felt undervalued by the champions and with the imminent arrival of £30m man Wilfried Bony at the Etihad, an offer for the striker could be worth a go.
