Transfer wishlist: Aston Villa must look to attack, attack, attack!

Published:

Which areas do they need to strengthen?

While Aston Villa have improved defensively this season, thanks to the signings of Philippe Senderos and Aly Cissokho among others, they are still lacking ideas in the final third.

Christian Benteke looks to be getting back to his best for the Claret and Blues but the Belgian could be the subject of some interest from the likes of Tottenham and Villa could still benefit from further attacking options while Libor Kozak recovers from his ongoing injury nightmare.

Who have they been linked with?

Bafetimbi Gomis, Scott Sinclair, Adil Nabi, Yaya Sanogo, Zlatko Januzovic, Hany Mukhtar.

January Wishlist Best Buys

Scott Sinclair (Manchester City)

Chances of Signing: The former Swans star is desperate to end his Etihad hell and despite underwhelming while on-loan at West Brom last term the winger looks the ideal addition to the Villa fold, with his pace and attacking flair a welcome addition to the team. City will be more than happy to let him leave too.

Zlatko Junuzovic (Werder Bremen)

Chances of Signing: There’s definitely some potential – Villa have been linked with a move for the Austria international for some time and with the midfielder in the final months of his contract with Bundesliga strugglers Bremen, a move to the bright lights of the Premier League may suit.

Bafetimbi Gomis (Swansea)

Chances of Signing: Undoubtedly something of a long shot given that he has only just signed for Swansea, Gomis could nevertheless be tempted by a move having struggled for game time in Wales, though any move could be dependent on whether Wilfried Bony stays or goes.

We Recommend…

Robbie Keane (LA Galaxy)

Any move for Keane may only represent a temporary fix but that’s exactly what Villa need with Libor Kozak on the way back to full fitness. The Irishman shone in the MLS last year and previously thrived on loan at Villa Park.

A stint in the Midlands could boost his national team chances too.
